Challenges in filming

As we have started filming, we have run into a few challenges so far. One big challenge that we have faced is being able to film in the actual filming location. Schools usually have many kids in one place at the same time, this makes it difficult to find quiet and desolate area to film in. To overcome this challenge, we have decided to only meet up after school and during study halls to film; by doing this, we will be able to get proper shots with minimal disruptions. Furthermore, we have had difficulties getting a variety of angles and shots like aerial shots and wide shots because of limited space while filming, to overcome this, we have been brainstorming ways to get to our filming locations quicker so they won't get crowded by the time we arrive. Finally, availability for everyone has been a challenge so far, most of us have extracurriculars and clubs after school so it has been difficult for us to film consistently. To overcome this, we will set apart days out of the week to film when none of us have after school meetings and extracurriculars. Everyone is pulling their weight well and I feel that we are all doing our parts equally and working together as a team.

Preparing to Film

I think that while making the film, we will run into our fair share of challenges but ultimately, we will be able to get everything done. Our actors: Tatiana, Azmina, Relysia, and Isabel mostly understand their characters, which helps, but finding times when everyone is available to film might be difficult. The costumes we're using simple, average school outfits that match the overall tone of the story, and while they're easy to put together, keeping them consistent across different filming days may be difficult. For props, we will only need a few items like backpacks, notebooks, and tissues, gathering and keeping track of these things will be simple and I do not believe that there will be any challenges in this category. The locations we will film in are the school bathroom and hallways because they fit the film perfectly, one big problem we will face will be getting those spaces quiet enough to use especially during the school day. Regarding dates and times, we haven't set exact filming dates yet, but we plan to edit and plan during the weekends and film after school, or during short breaks when everyone is free and the locations are less crowded. Since all four of us helped write the script, the story feels natural, even though delivering the lines in a realistic way will take some practice. The film equipment we will be using are a  phone camera, tripod, and basic lighting; the setup is simple, but getting the lighting to match the mood might be very difficult as we are filming in a school. Overall, the preparation shows how much coordination and communication we need before we begin filming.

Mood Board for Movie Opener

For this blogpost, I created a mood board for how I want my groups movie opener would look. In this mood board, I wanted to capture the tone of the movie opener from the point of view of the two main characters. The first main character is meant to be a quiet book worm and the second is meant to be a loner who is very quiet and to herself. I chose the background color to represent the sadness that the girls feel as they are getting bullied. As for my lighting choices, I chose high key lighting because the setting is inside of a school. The props that will be used in the opener are a necklace, notebooks, a reading book, and at least one cellphone, these props will make the story more realistic and tell us more about the characters. Finally, for the costumes I chose simple outfits for both girls to make them more relatable to the average teen girl.

Final Idea for Movie Opener

For our movie opener, we decided on a film about bullying. In this opener, there are 2 bullying victims and 2 perspectives from each victim. Throughout the exposition and rising action both victims are POV's are separate and follows them as they are getting bullied. As the opener reaches the climax, it is implied that the victims will begin to mirror actions and finally through the falling actions and denouement, the victims meet each other and share a moment of deep understanding, friendship, and comfort.

As for my concerns, I think that it might be hard to find a location to film, other than that I am very excited about the executing our creative ideas, camera work, and Mis-en-Scene.
